‘Majer Majgit mom or Majbritt’ is an intimate and dynamic portrait of a Danish woman, Majbritt, who lives as an expatriate at a remote hotel in Cuba with her husband. Her days unfold by the pool and the ocean – immersed in books, contemplation, and clashing with the hotel staff as cultural differences surface. Filmed through the eyes of her eldest daughter, the documentary offers an honest exploration of Majbritt’s background, behaviour, private sphere, and everyday struggles. Majbritt’s reflections touch upon themes of feminism, family relations, and existential contemplation of life and death. These reflections unfold against handheld footage of Cuban life – the contrasting landscapes of all-inclusive resorts, rural countryside, and the vibrant streets of Havana.

Directors statement : I am engaged in a year-long process of creating an experimental documentary series that portrays my mother and her three siblings. Here, the camera becomes secondary, and the focus rests on the intimacy and presence between me and the portrayed. While each film offers an individual portrait, together they form a broader generational study – an exploration of family dynamics, inheritance, and the enduring influence of one generation on the next.
Pebbles Underground is focused on showcasing and promoting experimental, avant-garde, underground, and no-to-low budget projects by artist-humans from all over the world. Absurd, uncanny, witty, humorous, slow-video – all are welcomed, and loved.
Pebbles Underground is an independent project not funded by any government or corporation, and we intend to keep it that way. Main source of funding is personal donations from humans organizing the project, who are artists themselves, and the main drive of the project is formed by the energy and involvement of the organizers, and the public.
