THE WALLS WERE BLUE /LAS PAREDES ERAN AZUL by Alex Guerra | Guatemala, USA (2024)
The walls have been repainted and nobody is home.
Director Statement
Growing up, I used to spend every summer and winter break with my cousins in my grandparent’s home in Guatemala. After visiting for the first time in over two years, I found everything to be very different. The walls of the house used to be completely blue but were now being repainted. The room in which my cousins once slept is now empty and all that is left are shadows. But, the tree we used to play under is still there.
The tree, a Ceiba, is the Guatemalan national tree and is over five-hundred years old. It watched my father grow up and it watched me grow up, and one day it will watch my children grow up, too.

Pebbles Underground is focused on showcasing and promoting experimental, avant-garde, underground, and no-to-low budget projects by artist-humans from all over the world. Absurd, uncanny, witty, humorous, slow-video – all are welcomed, and loved. Pebbles Underground is an independent project not funded by any government or corporation, and we intend to keep it that way. Main source of funding is personal donations from humans organizing the project, who are artists themselves, and the main drive of the project is formed by the energy and involvement of the organizers, and the public.
