“Seafood Market” Maisie Luo, USA, 2023

Seafood Market is a painting animation about a woman buying fish from an Asian Supermarket to cook for her family as the supermarket is being flooded. Despite being half submerged in water, the consumers continue shopping as if everything is normal. Meanwhile, as the water level continues increasing, the fish and shellfish find their way out of captivity.

Bio

Maisie Luo (b. 1997, China) lives and works in New Jersey. Luo holds a BA in Studio Art and Religion from Swarthmore College and an MTS from Harvard Divinity School in 2022. Luo is currently pursuing an MFA degree at Rutgers University.
