VERTIGO by Benjamin Juhel
USA, France (2024)

Feeling the experience of Los Angeles spaces in the night through the perception of a lonely woman,
wandering in the streets, having ritual moments of interiority, and letting go through dance.

Bio

Benjamin Juhel was born in Normandy, in 1984. Lives between Bordeaux & Los Angeles.

Graduated from Ecole des Beaux Arts in 2005, Benjamin Juhel used to work with photography and film. In 2007, he was the director of a workshop with The Company Theater in Mumbai called “Body, Space, Area”.

This time of artistic research using video, dance, and sound fixed the way he’s attached to choreography, rhythm and perception in his work.

The years after he created a few “Live Cinema” performances, physical and sensitive films played differently each time it was shown. His interest for gesture and architectural space can also be seen in “Silence” ( Dance – Thierry Mabon ) and “Ark” ( Dance – Anne Charlotte Baranger ), two forms of dance films.

In 2015, he used to work back with night and black with “Les Abandons”, a photography series of quiet abandoned bodies and silent cityscapes. Since then he used to create series using darkness, image’s physicality and the feeling of time duration.

His work has been shown in many exhibitions and film festivals ( London, Milan, Paris, New York, Buenos Aires, Bordeaux, Tokyo… )
