An experimental study of memory, images and filming, and how memories can transform, rust and disintegrate.
Fata Morgana is a mirage phenomenon in which distant objects appear distorted, often floating or stretched out on the horizon. The film is an experimental study of memory, images and filming, and how memories can transform, rust and disintegrate. The photographs are from summers spent before the 2nd world war on the banks of the Terijoki River in Karelia, which the Soviet Union invaded from Finland after WWII. Karelia remains part of Russia.

Director’s statement
In my art I study time, change and our role as part of nature. Many of my recent works are reflections of the ongoing environmental catastrophe, the mixed feelings of hope and despair and attempts to find a new balance. Most of my films are made using either digital video or analog 8/16mm film. I like to combine analog and digital tools and experiment with new technologies and ways of storytelling.

Pebbles Underground is focused on showcasing and promoting experimental, avant-garde, underground, and no-to-low budget projects by artist-humans from all over the world. Absurd, uncanny, witty, humorous, slow-video – all are welcomed, and loved. Pebbles Underground is an independent project not funded by any government or corporation, and we intend to keep it that way. Main source of funding is personal donations from humans organizing the project, who are artists themselves, and the main drive of the project is formed by the energy and involvement of the organizers, and the public.
