In a dream we become others, and when we wake the others become us. A dreamt being who wishes for a pair of eyes goes on a short journey, and ends up sensing the undefinable world around them in a different way.

Recordings of dreams are always entangled with the state of reality, there is no real difference. The observed and the observer are the same entity. The birds have led the dreamt being into a world that can only be fully sensed through a partial existence and the line of perception between things blurs.
Director’s statement
In a society that attempts to create distinction, there is a growing desire in us that wish to metamorphose into something that senses the world in a different way. This work wishes to allow everything to bleed into one another, let the voices of the ‘natural’ and ‘unnatural’ to speak for themselves. It does not ask for anything other than that for a moment we can treat everything as harmoniously contradictory, like an evolving aftermath of a dream.
It is also an attempt to respond to: What form of existence are we transforming into as the binaries of ‘human/non-human’ blur? What does it mean to be honest with ourselves when facing such a desire for transformation? Just like how obsessions with a dream turns dream into reality, is this shaping what it means to exist as ‘humans’.
Bio
The director Siyu Chen was born in Chengdu, China, and is currently pursuing BFA Fine Art at the University of Oxford. As a filmmaker and a multidisciplinary artist, her current practice focuses primarily on experimental moving image and short film, in which she seeks to capture the subtle and constantly shifting substances of transitions, between people and everyday perceptions.

Pebbles Underground is focused on showcasing and promoting experimental, avant-garde, underground, and no-to-low budget projects by artist-humans from all over the world. Absurd, uncanny, witty, humorous, slow-video – all are welcomed, and loved. Pebbles Underground is an independent project not funded by any government or corporation, and we intend to keep it that way. Main source of funding is personal donations from humans organizing the project, who are artists themselves, and the main drive of the project is formed by the energy and involvement of the organizers, and the public.
