Director’s statement
For a long time, romantic relationships seemed to me to revolve around a contradiction: wanting to be close to the person I desired while keeping my distance out of fear of being hurt… Schopenhauer described this dilemma by comparing us to hedgehogs who, in order to survive the cold of winter, must huddle together at the risk of injuring each other with their quills.

This image, combined with my own experience, sparked in me a desire to make cinema. That is where my passion for body horror led me to consider the following question: what if a teenager discovered that their body was covered in shards of glass? This question became the starting point for Chair Adolescente.

With this film, I want to portray adolescence as a period of instability in which our bodies, our self-images, and our identities change and slip beyond our control.

I envision Chair Adolescente as a disturbing film. The goal is not to shock gratuitously, but to challenge the audience. This will come through the depiction of the reality of adolescence, both violent and tender at once. The juxtaposition of intense, violent moments with others that are more delicate and sensitive will, I hope, create a striking contrast that resonates with everyone’s personal experience.
