Artist statement
My work explores the relationship between sound and image as a perceptual and emotional experience. Influenced by psychedelic culture, surrealism, psychoanalysis, and experimental music, I create films and audiovisual pieces where rhythm, texture, and visual transformation become a language beyond words. Coming from a background in sociology and ethnomusicology, I am particularly interested in how sound can shape memory, perception, and subconscious states.
Video art became my natural medium because it allows me to merge music, moving images, and abstraction into immersive sensory environments.
As both filmmaker and composer, I conceive sound and image simultaneously. Through layering, distortion, repetition, and visual fragmentation, I seek to create works that function like a form of “visual music”, poetic spaces where emotion, dream, and perception intersect.
Bio
Pierre Ajavon (b. 1966, Paris) is a French visual artist, experimental filmmaker, composer, and musician based in Paris.
His work combines moving image, sound, and experimental music, drawing influence from psychedelic culture, surrealism, and psychoanalytic thought.
After studying sociology and ethnomusicology, Pierre Ajavon turned to video art as a way to merge image and sound into immersive audiovisual experiences. His films and video works have been presented internationally at institutions and festivals including LACDA (USA), Fondazione Ragghianti (Italy) , Royal Scottish Academy (UK), CICA Museum (South Korea), Museum of Modern Arts (Brasil), The Wrong Biennale of Digital Arts, Experimenta (Portugal), Cairotronica (Egypt), AIDFF (Greece), Instants Vidéo (France), and MADATAC (Spain).
Alongside his visual practice, Pierre Ajavon composes and performs music that blends experimental electronics, psychedelic textures, and sonic exploration, developing a body of work where sound and image become inseparable.

Pebbles Underground is focused on showcasing and promoting experimental, avant-garde, underground, and no-to-low budget projects by artist-humans from all over the world. Absurd, uncanny, witty, humorous, slow-video – all are welcomed, and loved. Pebbles Underground is an independent project not funded by any government or corporation, and we intend to keep it that way. Main source of funding is personal donations from humans organizing the project, who are artists themselves, and the main drive of the project is formed by the energy and involvement of the organizers, and the public.
