“I am very tired – Je suis très fatigué” (00:04:59) by Juan Carlos García-Sampedro Ferrero, Spain, 2023

“I am very tired – Je suis très fatigué” is a tribute to one of the most unclassifiable films in the history of cinema “Last year at Marienbad” (L’Année dernière à Marienbad) a 1961 film by Alain Resnais. An enigmatic film of pure experimental cinema that even today, more than 60 years later, continues to be avant-garde cinema.

This video-creation aims to be faithful to the essence of the original film, recreating mystery, paradox and tragedy. A formal and aesthetic stylization that delves into the most transgressive aspects of Renais’ film that, being coherent with its aesthetics and formal aspects, gives another turn of the screw in a cinematographic abstraction, taking it towards the most conceptual video art.

Director bio

I studied film at the TAI, video at CES, video art at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid and script at the EICTV, in Cuba.

Since then, I have developed my professional career moving through various fields of the audiovisual field: direction, production, script, editing or camera; as well as in distribution, festival management, specialized criticism, audiovisual journalism, magazine publishing, film club management and as advisor to the Ministry of Culture.

I have worked as a filmmaker for TVE, Tele 5 and National Geographic. I have also made a documentary feature film, several fiction short films, some documentaries and countless video creations that have been seen in more than 200 festivals around the world, many of them award-winning. In addition, my work has been exhibited in the Central Library of Havana, the Cervantes Center of Tetuán and the Santa Mónica Art Center of Barcelona, among other unconventional spaces.
